Citywide (Five Boroughs #6)

Publisher: Riptide Publishing

Release Date (Print & Ebook): November 13, 2017

Length (Print & Ebook): 100k words/367 pages

Subgenre: Contemporary

Book Blurb:

A record-breaking heat wave engulfs the Five Boroughs, and emotions run as hot as the temperatures.

In Rerouted, Chris Mendez is trying to live a drama-free life. That doesn't include another threesome with Jace and Aiden Fairbairn. But then a citywide blackout leaves them trapped together, and Chris is forced to re-examine everything he thought he knew about relationships and his own heart.

In Gridlocked, former Marine Tonya Maldonado is keeping real estate heiress Meredith Stone on permanent ignore. Mere isn't Tonya’s type. Not even close. Who cares if she kisses like a dream and has the filthiest mouth this side of the East River? But then a security detail at a summer party ends with her saving Mere's life and discovering they have more chemistry than she’d ever imagined.

In Derailed, Stephanie Quinones escapes the heat and her complicated love life by going on a company retreat. Trouble is, it's a couples’ retreat, and she lied about having a boyfriend. Unfortunately, the only person willing to play pretend is her on-again/off-again fling, Angel Leรณn. They’re currently "off again,” but after a week in the woods, Stephanie realizes she wouldn’t mind them being permanently on.

Stephanie was still eyeing Scott like he’d just wandered in off the street. Then she glanced at me, but she had a weird look on her face, and that weirdness spelled reluctance. She did not want me to meet this person. “Scott is my boss. He’s the, um, DeFrancis of Berger & DeFrancis.”
I stared at her hard, waiting for her to introduce me, and watched that panic grow. What the fuck? There was absolutely no way Stephanie was banging her boss. She had too much integrity. And besides that, she’d often complained about the inequity of salaries, and how her fellow paralegals and the legal assistants irritated her by obsessing for years over her not having a boyfriend or girlfriend. She’d never once said anything to imply . . .
But it wasn’t my business. She did not belong to me.
I pasted on a half-assed smile and held out my hand. He had a limp, damp handshake.
“I’m Angel Leรณn. Nice to meet you, man.”
Scott nodded, cocked his head, and then awareness sparked. “Oh, you’re Stephanie’s fiancรฉ.”
I stared. “What?”
Beside me, Stephanie’s face was flaming. She seemed close to exploding right there in the glass-encased office as Caleb and Oli looked between us in confusion. They, wisely, didn’t speak.
“Stephanie’s fiancรฉ,” Scott awkwardly clarified. “We don’t, uh, well, that is, I don’t talk about personal things with my employees, but—” Holy fuck, would he ever get a sentence out? Stephanie appeared ready to melt into a puddle of humiliation on the floor. “She said she couldn’t come to the company retreat in Lake George next weekend because she had plans with her fiancรฉ. Angel.”
The effort to not crack a smile was monumental. This was stupid. I knew it was stupid. She’d thrown my name in the fray at work to keep them off her back. It had nothing to do with some actual desire to ever be engaged to me. But even so . . .
I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and pulled her in with a shit-eating smile. “Gotcha.”
Across from us, Oli was also turning red from an obvious effort not to laugh. Caleb looked like he wanted to die from secondhand embarrassment.
“Um . . .” Stephanie shuffled besides me. “Right . . .”
“But you know what, Scott?” I dug my fingers into Stephanie’s arm. “Those plans may dry up. Is it too late for her to go along?”
Oli had taken a sip of his drink and choked. Stephanie gave me a hateful glare. I kept smiling at Scott.
“No, not at all. We’re going to have cabins, do team-building activities, and there will even be a hike.” Scott listed these activities as if in theory they were awesome, but his voice barely made it to semi pleased to be participating. “There are a lot of couples going, so you’re more than welcome to attend. We still have one room available.”
This time it was Stephanie who brightened like her wattage had suddenly received a boost. “Well, we might just take that into consideration, Scott. My Angelito loves outdoorsy stuff.”
I kept my mouth sealed into a smile even as I saw this plan backfiring.

The first story is for me kind of a ending to something that’s been building up through other stories in the boroughs series. I absolutely love ๐Ÿ’• this story!
Jace and Aiden are in a open marriage and have included Chris at occasions. But he had ghosted them because he has developed feelings and don’t want to be hurt.
Now their stuck in a office building on Manhattan during a power blackout and it’s nowhere to run for Chris.
I love all the feelings in this story and the background for Aiden and Jace that led to such a strong relationship made me cry for them.
The connection between all three of the characters are very well described and it feels so natural that they should be together because of the way their personalities complements each other and makes them better.

I want to mention first that I’m not a fan of lesbian romance, don’t know why but that’s how it is. But again Hassell’s writing is unique so I’m engaged in the story before I’m finished with the first chapter.
Meredith and Tonya comes from different worlds and their encounters have been brief but unforgettable for them both. When Meredith is attacked and Tonya saves her they see new sides of each other.
I loved that Meredith could see beyond Tonya’s though exterior and accept her for who she is. Tonya got to see that there’s more to Meredith than a spoiled rich girl.
Points to Hassell for getting me to enjoy this story even if I was sceptical.

Angel and Stephanie has a one again off again relationship but a weekend get away with her work is changing the game.
Another great story from Hassell about how the challenges and fears of entering a relationship is different for each person. I can understand Stephanie’s fear after her childhood experiences but I can’t understand why she’s to blind to see that Angel is nothing like her parents.
He has a patient of a....Angel(pun intended) waiting and hoping for Stephanie to taking things to the next level.
As usual the story is filled with feelings and the love scenes is emotional and hot as h.....

A Contemporary Romance Novel

#1 New York Times Bestselling Author
Vi Keeland

My relationship with Hunter Delucia started backwards.

We met at a wedding—him sitting on the groom’s side, me sitting on the bride’s.  Stealing glances at each other throughout the night, there was no denying an intense, mutual attraction.

I caught the bouquet; he caught the garter.  Hunter held me tightly while we danced and suggested we explore the chemistry sparking between us.  His blunt, dirty mouth should’ve turned me off.  But for some crazy reason, it had the opposite effect on me.

We ended up back in my hotel room.  The next morning, I headed home to New York leaving him behind in California with the wrong number.

I thought about him often, but after my last relationship, I’d sworn off of charming, cocky, gorgeous-as-sin men. A year later, Hunter and I met again at the birth of our friends’ baby.  Our attraction hadn't dulled one bit.  After a whirlwind trip, he demanded a real phone number this time.  So I left him with my mother’s—she could scare away any man with her talks of babies and marriage—and flew back home.

I’d thought it was funny, until the following week when he rang the bell at Mom’s house for Sunday night dinner.  The crazy, gorgeous man had won over my mother and taken an eight-week assignment in my city.  He proposed we spend that time screwing each other out of our systems.

Eight weeks of mind-blowing sex with no strings attached? What did I have to lose?

Nothing, I thought.
It’s just sex, not love.
But you know what they say about the best laid plans…

Review: A Rancher's Heart

One of my favourite authors has a new book that came out November 16th and here is my review of it:

A Rancher's Heart A Rancher's Heart by Vivian Arend
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*I was gifted this ARC from the author and freely give my review*

Tamara has been a secondary character in the Six Pack Ranch series from Vivian Arend for a long time but this story can be read without reading any books from that series. However you might get sucked in to Arend’s rancher world and want to keep reading because this is sooooooo good!

Tamara is hired as a nanny for two girls by their father, Caleb. A messy encounter with her boss on her way to her first day of work makes thing a little on edge but that’s just the beginning.

I love Arend’s writing style, so easy and enjoyable, no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and lots of dialogues.

The characters are well described and the little girls are especially precious in their pouting and straight forward way of behaviour.

Slow building of feelings is a suspense that makes me hoping Tamara and Caleb will find their happily ever after. The feelings and connection between them is so clear for all others to see, and that’s so fun reading.

The love scenes is as always adventurous and hot with a lot of emotions, you can feel the love growing between them with every kiss.

If you like sweet and also hot stories with HEA I recommend this strongly. 5 enjoyable stars ๐ŸŒŸ

Review: Wish You Were Mine

Wish You Were Mine Wish You Were Mine by Tara Sivec
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

*A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley and I'm freely giving my honest review.*

This was a very emotional story and I fell in love with all the characters even Aiden. It’s a story about 3 childhood friends and how they cope with love and tragedy that is written with care and gripping to the core of all the feelings we all struggles with at times in our life; grief, sadness, love, care, anger, despair and most of all insecurities. The thing that makes me give it 4 stars is the lack of communication between the characters, I know it’s making it more interesting but for me it’s just irritating when it’s overdone, which I feel it is here.

The writing style is good with lots of dialogues (although not about the subject of matter) and no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings. The story flows well although I felt the suspense was a little drawn out but it kept me into the story all along.

The characters are well described with a lot of emotions and the internal dialogues made me able to get to know them well.

Emotional, sweet and also hot love scenes is a great bonus in this story.

If you like long suspense and sweet romance with HEA I recommend this.

Review: Rock Solid

Rock Solid Rock Solid by Carly Phillips
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*I was gifted this ARC and freely give my review of it*

Katie and Connor enjoyed one night together and they only know each other’s first names. Years later they meet again and Katie reveals that Connor is father to a daughter.
I absolutely love surprise babies, and this was particularly good because of the descriptions of Connor as a caveman but considerate lover in his relationship with Katie and a caring father with Valerie, his daughter.

The writing style is easygoing and filled with dialogues and there’s no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings which makes it a very good story in my opinion.

The connection between Katie and Connor is well described and the love scenes is emotional and sweet in addition to being hot.

I loved this story very much and I cried and laughed and felt like I got to know the characters very well.

This is the fourth book in a series but it can be read as a standalone, so if you like surprise babies and hot, sweet romances this is a solid 5 ๐ŸŒŸ read.

If Raven Crosby hadn’t picked up some hacking tips from QI4, I’d eat my shoe.
She’d left as they were growing. Kept her stock options. That never happens. She was also still friendly with Taylor Harden, the hacker brain behind QI4’s quantum system.
I figured they’d parted on good terms. Maybe with something hanging over Taylor’s head.
My team ended up with a few folders on her. I told myself I was a lawyer. Collecting data on people was what I did for a living.
But this was different.
A week in, I was obsessed with her ebony hair and eyes. Lashes drawn on with black Sharpie. Her voice was hypnotic in meetings, and was only heard after long stretches of listening. The night before, she’d tipped her hand, showing me that she’d peeled the curtain back to get intel on me. I didn’t feel violated as much as vindicated. The attraction was mutual. She wouldn’t have done it for any other reason.
“I’ll be there at eight,” I said to my sister, Teagan. We had a dinner planned half an hour before, but I didn’t want to go. It wasn’t the rain that pounded on the windows. It wasn’t my sister. Teagan was fine, but the office was empty and Raven was right across the hall, working in the glow of a desk lamp.
“You better be,” she said. “I’m starving and I need to get drunk.”
“Get a head start at the bar.”
“I’m not going to sit at the end of the bar by myself with a drink. Do you even know what it’s like out there for a girl?”
I didn’t know firsthand, obviously, but I knew enough from her. Teagan was a career gamer and game designer. One of the best. She had a sweet, harmless face that made her approachable to even the most beta of betas. Regardless, even the betas tried to compete with her once they knew what she did. I was exhausted on her behalf.
Across the hall, Raven stood and clicked off her desk lamp.
“Leaving now,” I said, cutting the call. I grabbed my things and headed out, timing it perfectly so we met in the hall.
“Hi,” I said.
She nodded and gave me a non-committal smile. We spoke often, but never a word that didn’t have to do with the human resources software implementation and how it would protect Neuronet from liability.
“It’s raining,” I said. “You taking the elevator to the parking lot?”
The executive lot was underground, on the other side of campus. If you wanted to get there underground, without crossing the courtyard and getting rained on, you had to take the elevator.
“Yes.” She started down the hall and I followed.

“I’ll walk you.”

About CD Reiss:

C.D. Reiss is a USA Today bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

My review:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

*I was gifted this ARC and freely give my review of it*

A short, hot story with a lot of work talk, but very enjoyable. Not a story I would want to read over and over, but for a one time read it’s a solid 4 stars.

Raven and Roman is starting to work together in a company that has strict rules about work relationships. This suits Raven well after her experiences, but the rules are here to be broken, aren’t they?

The storyline is good and the flow of the story is made solid by the writing style that’s easy and fun.

The love scenes are hot with some filthy talking and possessive alpha Roman and a daring Raven.

Descriptions of the characters is somewhat lacking, I don’t get the feeling of knowing them but that could also be the length of the story making it to short to get a real feeling of getting in their heads.

Good short afternoon read.
